Jason Wotherspoon
Student of Takayasu Sensei, 3rd Dan, a prolific writer on the martial arts, and the author of much of the writing preserved in this section.
Jason Wotherspoon began training at the North Sydney dojo (PCYC) in 1989. From 1990 he worked for Takayasu Sensei in a form of uchi-deshi arrangement that lasted eight years, training under both Takayasu Sensei and Mic Marelli Sensei, helping to organise seminars and demonstrations for the association, and acting as assistant instructor at Takayasu Sensei’s dojo. He was a talented martial artist, graded 3rd Dan.
He was also a prolific writer on the martial arts. He built and ran the association’s first website and wrote much of what was on it, and the pieces kept in this section are his. He passed away unexpectedly in 2012.

The biography below is reproduced exactly as Jason wrote it for the association’s website, around 1999. It is left in his own present tense, describing plans and studies that were current when he wrote it.
Jason Wotherspoon Sensei, 3rd Dan
Jason started training at North Sydney Dojo in 1989, then in 1990 began working for Takayasu Sensei in a form of uchi-deshi arrangement which lasted 8 years. This fortunate position allowed him to immerse himself in the study of Aikido, training under both Takayasu Sensei and Mic Marelli Sensei. Along with the other Sydney black belts, he helped organise and participated in many seminars and demonstrations for the Association in Sydney, as well as act as assistant instructor at Takayasu Sensei’s dojo.
He has been studying Asian history, culture and philosophy since high school, travelling a number of times to Japan and parts of South East Asia. He has also participated in a number of seminars as well as a 5 week teacher training retreat in upstate New York under Mantak Chia, the founder of the Healing Tao System, which is a complete Taoist system of physical, mental and spiritual development. He has also been pursuing religious studies under Taoist Master Hsu, Chi-yuan for the past 10 years, having entered a 2nd level of initiation in 1998.
Presently he is doing a degree in Linguistics, Mandarin, and Asian studies at Griffith University, with the goal of establishing a full-time centre in Brisbane, becoming both a teacher and writer in Martial Arts and Taoist related subjects. He also manages the Association’s website, and is collaborating on the development of a computer based multi-media Aikido instructional project for distance education purposes.
